What's Fresh?

After such a long and particularly harsh winter, the Michigan 2008 fresh produce season is anticipated more than usual.  Nottawa Fruit Farm opens May 1 with home-grown Asparagus that is always picked fresh daily.  Another favorite, Rhubarb, follows within a week thereafter If you are enjoying Asparagus as an entree or as a vegetable side dish along with a Rhubarb dessert, you know that Spring is finally here!

ASPARAGUS PRICING

Asparagus is priced at $1.49 lb.  Quantities of 10 pounds or more are priced at $1.35 lb., but larger quantities are not always available because of weather-please note that the cooler weather slows down production.  In early May, it is important to phone first about Asparagus availability.

Michigan Produce is absolutely the BEST in the world!

ASPARAGUS FACTS

Michigan Asparagus is snapped off at the most tender point;
the entire stalk is useable--the tough part is left in the field

Shipped-in Asparagus is knifed off at ground level; so the
consumer has to pay for the part he/she has to discard

It takes nearly six years after Asparagus is
planted that a full crop can be harvested

Michigan ranks third in the nation in Asparagus production

Michigan's climate and sandy loam soils make
for excellent Asparagus growing conditions

The size of the Asparagus spear does NOT determine its tenderness.
One needs only, for cooking ease, choose spears of identical size

Just 5 Asparagus spears equals one of your "Five-a-Days"

Asparagus is a part of the 'Lily' family; regardless, it is
a low calorie and wonderfully nutritious vegetable

Michigan ASPARAGUS is the absolute BEST in the world!
